Coarse plant with bold flowers. Running rootstocks shoot erect, square stems with toothed aromatic leaves, and dense whorled heads of tubular flowers. Highly mildew resistant. Hummingbird plant. A must for the butterfly garde. Plant in borders or woods edge with astilbe, chelone, filipendula, Siberian Iris, Iris ensata, kirengeshoma, Japanese, anemone, and campanula.
Blooms July to August with dense, whorled clusters of tubular scarlet red flowers surrounded by reddish bracts.
