Ruby Slippers' has something to offer every season! Spring ushers in large, dark green, oak-shaped leaves. Then, early summer sets off a profusion of white conical flowers that soon turn shades of pink to ruby red, hence the name 'Ruby Slippers'. Come fall that deep green foliage has turned mahogany red. Finally, once winter has arrived and the foliage has fallen away, you can appreciate the attractive exfoliating bark. Leave on dried flowers for extra winter appreciation.
Attracts pollinators.
Full sun - part shade. Average-rich, moist-wetter, well-draining. Protect from winter winds. Zone 5-8.
Apply mulch if planted in higher sun to maintain soil moisture.
Blooms on old wood - prune if needed immediately after flowering. Winter damage can be removed in early spring.
