Showy garden fern with leathery, firm, foliage resembling ash tree leaves. Intense yellow-brown fall color. Fertile fronds stand erect in the center of the plant. Part sun to full shade in moist, acid soil. Likes to be mulched. Zone 2-10. Lush plant for damp woodlands and streamside. Interplant with spring bulbs, hostas, hardy geraniums, lamium, primroses, ligularia, and rodgersia. Mass plant along pond edge with their feet in the water. Deer Resistant. Can be used as a cut flower.
